Person A is reported to have sent a total of 544 text messages to Jeong Eun-ji starting in March 2020 with content such as, “Will you accept me as your butler and companion?”

He is also accused of stalking Jung Eun-ji's car from the KBS headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul to a hair and makeup shop in Gangnam-gu on his motorcycle in May 2020. In July 2021, he was caught by the police while lurking in the apartment where Jung Eun-ji lived, showing the seriousness and method of the crime.

For this stalking charge, the first trial court sentenced Mr. A to one year in prison and two years of probation in January. He was also ordered to pay a fine of 100,000 won, be placed on probation, perform 120 hours of community service, and attend 40 hours of lectures on preventing repeat stalking crimes. However, Mr. A appealed the first trial verdict, and a second trial was held.

The court stated in its ruling, “The content of the messages the defendant sent to the victim appears to go beyond the level of support, interest, and affection that fans would typically send to their favorite celebrities.” The court also stated, “Even if the victim signed up for Instagram, Bubble App, etc. to communicate with the general public, it cannot be seen that she consented to or permitted any form of access or contact.”

He continued, “The defendant’s crime is not serious, and the victim appears to have suffered significant mental shock, pain, anxiety, and fear.” He added, “The defendant is also denying the crime and is not showing any remorse.”
