As usual, I was reading the most interesting novel in my 17 years of life (I’m not lying, I think I read it 5 times), but today was so hard that I must have fallen asleep without realizing it. I must have slept for about 8 hours. If I sleep for too long, my condition will be terrible, and I live the day almost like I’m half dead. As if I realized in my sleep that I shouldn’t sleep any longer, I kept my body lying down and slowly opened my heavy eyelids.
I was just rolling my eyes in a half-asleep state, and then, huh?
Why is the wallpaper pink instead of white? I thought I was just hallucinating in my sleep, so I rubbed my blurry eyes several times and slowly scanned the room again with my clearer vision. I scanned it,
“…Where on earth is this..?”
I looked again with clear eyes, but this was not Lee Yoon-seo's room. Then where on earth was this place? While I was lost in thought for a long time, a scene from a novel flashed through my complicated mind.
“Wow, really? Is this... the room where the extra Yu Ji-yeon from the novel lives..?”
The moment I thought about it, I was so excited and happy to be possessed by a novel I liked, but I was firstly angry that the possessed character was an extra, and secondly angry that the extra was a villainess. No!!! If I'm going to be possessed, I should be possessed by the pretty, cute, kind, and do-it-all heroine Kim Yeo-ju!!! Why do I have to be a villainess even if I'm possessed!!!
“Oh my, Jiyeon! What are you talking about? Is there something you don’t like?”
When my mother, who was worried about Jiyeon and not Yunseo, opened the door and came in, my mother in real life was so different from me that I realized it once again. 'Ah, I'm really possessed.'
“Mom, Mom!!”
“Hey, Jiyeon. Do you have something to say to Mom?”
“What month and day is it today..?”
“Um, wait a minute…. Today is….. March 7th.”
"…. mom!!"
“Oh, that’s a surprise. Mom is here, so you don’t have to call so loudly.”
“Oh, sorry. I suddenly remembered something else I was wondering about..”
“What is my daughter curious about that makes her so urgent~”
“Nothing else… How old am I..?”
The mother's expression hardened noticeably at Jiyeon's question. After all, who wouldn't be surprised if the daughter who called her mother so loudly because she had a question suddenly asked her age?
“Jiyeon-ah… why are you suddenly half-asleep? Or do you want to go to the hospital with mom?”
“No, no, that’s not it at all.. I was just suddenly curious..?”
“Ugh, Yu Ji-yeon, a second-year student who will be attending school tomorrow.”
“Mom, I’m in second grade, not first?”
“It’s been a while since you finished your freshman year. Do you still miss your freshman year? You always said you didn’t want to grow old..”
“So you’re saying I’m 18 now, not 17??”
“That’s right. Jiyeon, are you doing this because you don’t trust your mother? Or are you really sick somewhere?”
“No, Mom, I guess it’s because I didn’t get much sleep last night.”
“Can I trust my daughter?”
“Of course, Mom, ah- I’m hungry, give me food.”
“I knew this would happen, so I prepared everything. Mom, I’ll go out first. Come out quickly~”
So my mom went out of the room again, and I moved my body, put my feet on the floor, and sat down on the bed, lost in thought again. Why was I suddenly possessed by this novel, and why was I possessed now, a month ago, not on April 7th, the day the story in the novel begins? And in the original work, the date when the female protagonist, Yeoju, transferred to a new school was about a month after the beginning of this novel, May 3rd. With the introduction of the big variable called Lee Yoon-seo, I was curious about how the date when Yeoju transferred would change, and the curiosity grew bigger and bigger.
After staying in that place for a while, Jiyeon heard her mother calling her from outside. Upon hearing that, she immediately realized that she had been staying in that place for too long, so she quickly got up, opened the door, and went outside.
“Sorry, Mom.. I had to clean up my desk..”
“Oh my, my daughter even cleans her desk herself? She’s all grown up~”
“Oh, Mom! I’m not a little kid!”
“You’re still a baby in Mommy’s eyes. Your legs must hurt. Sit down quickly. You know that your favorite japchae doesn’t taste good when it gets cold, right?”
Even I, the real Yoonseo, always went crazy over Japchae, but it seems that Yoo Ji-yeon, the extra in this novel, also really likes Japchae. I'm so happy to have found something in common for the first time. If Yoo Ji-yeon liked the food that I don't like, I, Yoonseo, might have been caught right away for not being Yoo Ji-yeon. Even if Yoo Ji-yeon, who is my current self, accepted the food, I wouldn't have been very willing to put it in my mouth.
“Mom, do I have any close friends?”
“Hey Jiyeon, are you really not sick anywhere?”
“Hey, it’s not like that!”
“How could you not remember Namjoon, Jiyeon… the guy who was so good to you?”
Honestly, I let my mom's gossip slide because of what she said about his name. As soon as my mom mentioned the name Namjoon, a scene flashed through my mind.
-
“Hey, Namjoon! What’s going on in front of my house?”
“What’s going on? I came here to go to school with you.”
“With me? Why?”
“I want to go with you, but what’s the reason? Let’s go, we’ll be late.”
-
As you can see from the scene I recalled, we became close after being in the same class in the first grade, and we became close enough that it wasn't awkward for us to be alone together, so we started going to school together. I still wonder why Yoo Ji-yeon didn't go out of class at that time and why she only had Kim Nam-joon as her friend, even though I read the novel back then.
I wondered if I had been eating my meal while thinking about all those things. I asked again with my mind clearer after hearing a faint voice in my dazed mind.
“Huh? What did you say, Mom?”
“You really need to go to bed early today.”
“Ah.. haha..”
“So, are you ready to go to school?”
“Ready for school?”
“It’s Monday tomorrow! You didn’t forget again, did you?”
“Oh, oh! Right, Monday! Haha..”
“Have you finished eating?”
“Hey, I’ll go get ready for school..!”
“Oh, okay”
With that being said, I went into my room, roughly finished getting ready for school, and sat down on my chair. I was half excited and half nervous about what school would be like, and then I turned my gaze to find a mirror. My reflection in it was so different from Lee Yoon-seo's that I slowly looked at her eyes, nose, mouth, and ears in that order.
Unlike Lee Yoon-seo's black hair, Yoo Ji-yeon's hair was a light brown, her eyes were large and clear, her nose was sharp, and her lips were small and pretty like cherries. Her appearance, which was only expressed in words in the novel, was somehow a little, no, a lot different from what I had imagined. I expected her to have a sharp and strong impression because she was a villainess in the novel, but she had the appearance of a gentle and cute puppy, which surprised me.
“Oh, if that’s the case, I’m starting to get curious about the male leads’ faces too.”
Likewise, the appearance, personality, and even appearance of the male protagonists in the novel are expressed only in words. So there was a limit to accurately recalling the image, but now that it has been transformed, I can see those handsome faces and I can't help but feel happy.
“…I wish tomorrow would come quickly.”
With that thought in mind, I got up from my seat, went to the bathroom, got ready, said goodbye to my mom, and went into my room. Maybe it was because I had been possessed by this article for less than a day, but there was nothing I could do alone in this house. So even though it was only 7 o'clock, I was already one with my bed.
•
“… Ugh, noisy.” My heavy eyelids went up along with the loud alarm sound. I turned on my phone to turn off the noisy alarm, and after turning it off, I naturally checked the time, and it seemed like I had slept quite a bit.
“.. If I sleep too much, I get a headache.”
Oh right, I'm Yu Ji-yeon.
I got up from my heavy bed and started getting ready. Not much time passed and I finished getting ready. I headed to the kitchen to eat something simple. There, I saw a familiar face.
"… mom..?"
“Huh? Jiyeon woke up early?”
“Uh huh.. but why is Mom up already?”
“I have to pack my daughter’s lunch~”
"rice..?"
“I’m surprised again. Sit down quickly and I’ll serve you some food.”
I was surprised at how different the image of my mother preparing breakfast early in the morning was from Lee Yoon-seo’s life. My mother always went to work early in the morning, so I would eat a simple breakfast of a glass of milk or a piece of bread. Maybe because it was a novel, Yoo Ji-yeon must have lived in a pretty nice house.
I felt like I had more energy after eating my mom's warm home-cooked meal in the morning. After I finished eating and brushed my teeth, I put my bag on my shoulder, put on my shoes, and spoke to my mom in a bright voice.
“I’m going to school!”
“Have a nice trip, my daughter.”
After a brief greeting with my mother, I grabbed the front door handle and opened it. When I saw someone in front of me, I screamed in surprise.
“What a surprise!!”
“.. Are you really surprised? Sorry. I didn’t mean to surprise you.”
It was Kim Namjoon.
