[talk] Thank you for visiting Daejeon World Cup Stadium.
With the rise of popular singer Lim Young-woong, history has been made once again. This time, Daejeon Hana Citizen of K League 1 enjoyed the "Lim Young-woong effect" and enjoyed a great deal of good fortune.
Daejeon defeated Daegu FC 3-2 in the 30th round home game of the Hana Bank K League 1 2025 held at Daejeon World Cup Stadium on the 20th, achieving their third consecutive home win.
The excitement was higher than ever with the appearance of Hana Bank's main model, Lim Young-woong. This was thanks to a thrilling victory in a match attended by a crowd of 21,045. On this day, Daejeon set a new record for the largest attendance since the 2018 paid attendance tally.
Daejeon's previous record for home attendance (20,592) was set in July 2023 against Jeonbuk Hyundai. While Daejeon's football has consistently enjoyed popularity since returning to K League 1 this season, this new record was set after two years and two months. Considering that Daejeon's average home attendance this season was 10,255, this is a particularly striking example of the "Lim Young-woong effect."
Lim Young-woong's visit to a soccer stadium is officially establishing a new attendance record. Lim Young-woong served as the opening ceremonial speaker for the match between FC Seoul and Daegu at Seoul World Cup Stadium in April 2023, which drew a packed audience of 45,007. This was the largest attendance for a single professional sporting event since the COVID-19 pandemic began, and the highest attendance since the K League began tracking paid attendance.
Lim Young-woong, who performed in Seoul two years ago wearing soccer cleats out of concern for the grass, also showed his true "soccer man" side in Daejeon. He wore them during the opening ceremony and even at halftime, when he performed his new song "Melody for You." It was a decision made out of a deep understanding of soccer stadium culture and consideration for the club and players.
Lim Young-woong's fan club, "Woongwoong Sidae," which fills soccer stadiums whenever he's in the spotlight, once again honored stadium culture. For the Seoul-Daegu match, fans wore a different color to Daegu's team colors, citing the overlap. This time, however, many fans filled the stands wearing green, the home team's color, Daejeon. As usual, Youngwoong Sidae even cleaned up trash before leaving the stadium.
The Daejeon players, playing amidst the overflowing crowd, were in high spirits. Striker Joo Min-kyu, in particular, led his team to victory with a pair of goals. He intercepted an opponent's pass in the 30th minute of the first half and scored with his left foot. In the 11th minute of the second half, he headed in a corner kick from João Victor. It was his first goal in 42 days, since the 3-2 win against Suwon FC on the 10th of last month.
Joo Min-kyu, who scored his 12th and 13th goals, is now one goal behind the leading scorer, Jeon Jin-woo (Jeonbuk Hyundai, 14 goals), and has raised hopes of becoming the K League's third scoring champion, following the 2021 and 2023 seasons.
Daejeon (48 points), currently in third place in the league, maintained a one-point lead over second-place Gimcheon Sangmu (49 points), which defeated Jeonbuk Hyundai on the same day. With the competition still fierce, Joo Min-kyu's return to scoring is a welcome boost for Daejeon.
Thank you for visiting Daejeon World Cup Stadium.
