Lim Young-woong Reveals His ‘Beginner’s Mind’ While Singing His Debut Song… “The Bong Train Departs”

"Singing my debut song, I feel like I've gone back to the beginning for the first time in a long time."

Singer Lim Young-woong said this while looking at the fans who filled the hall after singing his debut song "Shower" on the spot without accompaniment at his solo concert "Lim Young-woong Recital" held at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on the afternoon of the 28th.

After debuting in 2016 with "I Hate You" and "Shower," he spent some time in obscurity before rising to the top by winning brilliantly on "Mr. Trot."

It was only natural that he, who had made a name for himself by performing on all kinds of small stages since his debut, would have mixed feelings when he stood here, in the largest indoor concert hall in Seoul.

Lim Young-woong looked back, saying, "I still vividly remember the moment I debuted," and "I vividly remember recording that song (my debut song). In fact, the song 'I Hate You' was so, so hard for me. Even now, I'm not a great high-pitched vocalist, but I wasn't a good vocalist at the time either."

He continued, "Have you all seen my debut stage video?" and said, "There's a video where a dark-skinned kid comes up like this, wearing white clothes, putting his hair up like this, and drawing his eyebrows black."

According to Yonhap News, Lim Young-woong has been holding a concert for six days at the Gocheok Sky Dome, which can accommodate about 20,000 people, since the day before. Naturally, all seats were sold out as soon as ticket sales began.

On this day, Lim Young-woong, who also performed his debut song 'I hate you' and 'Shower' for the first time in a long time, delighted his fans by dedicating a significant portion of the setlist of about 30 songs to the trot genre, just like his words when he mentioned 'beginner's mind'.

On this day, Lim Young-woong came down from the sky in a lift wearing a black suit covered in glitter decorations. He smiled proudly at the sight of the sky blue waves that symbolize him.

The audience greeted the star of the day with cheers and applause, holding up pickets that read, “We love Lim Young-woong,” “Lim Young-woong’s 52nd performance,” and “We are always on your side.”

Lim Young-woong started the concert with Bae Ho's original song, "Yeongsi's Farewell," and then performed trot hit songs by senior singers, such as "Dongbaek Lady" (Lee Mi-ja), "Heartbreaking" (Nam Jin), and "Man" (Na Hoon-a). He also selected many famous songs that middle-aged and older people would be familiar with, such as Cho Yong-pil's "That Winter's Tea House" and "I Want to Walk" and Kim Soo-hee's "Aemo." A significant portion of the setlist was filled with trot songs that he sang in "Call Center of Love" and "Bongsunga Academy."
