A woman in her 30s who was indicted for leaving malicious comments on singer IU was sentenced to a fine in the first trial.

Judge Lee Gyeong-seon of the 16th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court sentenced Mr. K, who was indicted on charges of insult, to a fine of 3 million won on the 3rd. The prosecution's requested sentence was 4 months in prison.

In the previous trial, Mr. K's attorney argued, "The article written by the defendant expressed his opinion based on objective facts and partially used insulting expressions, so it does not constitute insult." However, the court ruled, "Given the normal meaning or context of the expression used, it is judged to be an insulting and derogatory personal attack, and considering the Supreme Court's precedents, it goes beyond expressing an opinion and constitutes insult, so we do not accept the argument."
