(Seoul = News 1) Reporters Kim Jong-hoon and Jeong Yun-mi = It has been belatedly revealed that singer Jeong Dong-won, a minor, was driving a car without a license. The case was handed over to the prosecution from the police and is currently under investigation.
According to a comprehensive report from News 1 on the 11th, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office is currently investigating Mr. Jeong on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (driving without a license).
Mr. Jeong was found to have been driving without a license in a provincial city in 2023. At the time, he was 16 years old, which makes him ineligible for a driver's license.
Police, who had been investigating the case until early this year, have transferred Mr. Jeong's case to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office. The case was initially handled by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, but it was transferred to the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office due to Mr. Jeong's address and other factors.
According to Article 82 of the Road Traffic Act, anyone aged 18 or older can obtain a driver's license, including a Class 1 regular driver's license. Driving without a license is punishable by up to 10 months in prison or a fine of 3 million won.
News 1 has contacted Mr. Jeong several times to hear his position on this matter, but he has not yet responded.
Mr. Jeong rose to fame through TV Chosun's "Mr. Trot" in 2020. He was a first-year middle school student at the time and finished in fifth place.
In March 2023, Mr. Jeong was caught driving a motorcycle on the Seoul Eastern Expressway, where motorcycle traffic was prohibited, and received a suspended indictment.
