[All] Kang Daniel Defamation' 3 Million Won Fine Requested for Detention Center

The prosecution has demanded a fine of 3 million won for the operator of the YouTube channel 'Taldeoksuyongso', who was indicted on charges of defaming singer Kang Daniel.

The prosecution requested this sentence at the final trial for violation of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (defamation) held on the 12th by Judge Lee Jun-gu of the 18th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court.

In his final statement, Mr. A stated, “At the time, I was immature and short-sighted. I am sorry that I hurt the victims with my short-sighted thoughts.” He added, “I will work hard and do my best to volunteer in the future so that I can be of help to society.”

The court set Mr. A's first trial sentencing date for September 11th at 2:00 PM.

Person A was indicted on charges of defaming Kang Daniel by posting a video titled “The Disturbing Private Life of the Nation’s Boyfriend, Actor Idol” on his YouTube channel “Taldeoksuyongso” in 2022.

At first, the prosecution filed a summary indictment against Mr. A with a fine of 3 million won. A summary indictment is a procedure in which the prosecution requests a fine through written examinations, etc. without sending the suspect to a formal trial. However, the court did not accept this and referred Mr. A to a formal trial.

Person A's side admitted at trial that they had produced and posted the video, but claimed that "they posted it knowing that the content of the video was true."
