2. Plot Summary
The main character, Woo-sung (Kang Ha-neul), is a low-income person who has managed to buy an 84㎡ apartment with difficulty by selling his retirement fund, loans, and even his parents' land. However, the house price is plummeting, and he cannot sleep due to the noise from upstairs every night. The conflict deepens as the downstairs neighbors accuse Woo-sung of being the culprit. Woo-sung goes back and forth between the upstairs and the penthouse to find the real source of the noise, and he falls into an increasingly dangerous situation.
3. What is the ending?
The real culprit of the noise between floors was Young Jin-ho (Seo Hyun-woo) who lives upstairs. He tried to report the past poor construction corruption, but was prevented by the residents' representative Jeon Eun-hwa (Yeom Hye-ran), and used Woo-sung to expose it. In the end, both Eun-hwa and Young Jin-ho lose their lives, and Woo-sung covers up the incident by burning the poor construction ledger and his house contract. In the end, Woo-sung keeps his house, but the noise between floors still does not go away.
4. What is the interpretation of the ending?
The ending satirizes modern society, which is obsessed with 'house prices' and 'realistic pain'. Woo-sung chooses to keep his house even if he has to give up everything, and the poor construction and corruption are never revealed to the world. This symbolically shows the survival instinct of an individual and the absurdity of the social system.
5. Reviews and evaluations
The audience evaluated the realistic development in the first half as interesting, but expressed disappointment with the excessive setting and lack of probability in the second half. In particular, the 'coin investment' and 'reservation sale' scenes caused frustration in many people.
