[All] I'm surprised that Tony An also suffered from severe depression.
Tony An was in his mid-to-late 20s, so it seems like he was still at the peak of his popularity with HOT.
It's surprising to hear that he suffered from severe depression at that time and almost attempted suicide.
The problem was that I wanted to do better even though I was already doing well.
It really matters whether a person is satisfied with his or her life or not.
Something about Tony An these days, he seems very comfortable. Haha
Animal Farm Tonya lol
Meanwhile, I wonder what Kim Saeng-min is doing.................
[Sports Chosun Reporter Jo Yoon-sun] HOT's Tony An revealed that he suffered from severe depression in the past.
On the 10th anniversary special of tvN STORY 'Unexpected Adult' that aired on the 29th, former World Bank President Kim Yong appeared and gave a lecture on the topic 'Is Korea finished?'
On this day, former President Kim Yong addressed depression, which has emerged as Korea's biggest social issue. He said, "In the United States, many celebrities, including Dwayne Johnson, Lady Gaga, and Emma Thompson, speak openly about depression."
He continued, "I was lucky enough to meet BTS. I was with them when they gave a speech at the UN, and RM said, 'Love yourself.' It wasn't about depression or suicide, but it really resonated with everyone. Thanks to that, we were able to talk about depression together."
Tony Ahn, who participated as a panelist, confessed, "I also suffered from severe depression in my mid-to-late 20s. There was a time when I was so dependent on alcohol and drugs that I thought about death every day. It was so difficult."
He confessed, "Later, when I thought about it carefully, 'Why did I do that?' I think it was because of comparison. We talked about social media, but I also thought that the obsession with 'Why are there so many people living better than me?', 'Why are there so many people who are more successful than me?', 'I have to do better too' made me feel more unhappy than happy, which may have worsened my depression."
Tony Ahn said, "I lived on a high floor, and I had a lot of bad thoughts when I looked down. I even picked up a knife or something. There were a lot of really dangerous moments." He added, "When I thought about it later, I realized that the problem was that I was too obsessed with comparing myself to others and trying to be more successful."
Former President Kim Yong said, "I have a program I'd like to introduce to you. It's a mental health campaign called 'Mind SOS.' There's also a program called 'Look, Listen, and Speak,' which my colleague Dr. Baek Jong-woo started. It's a similar concept to CPR or first aid." He continued, "When I returned to the U.S., I taught psychological first aid to everyone on college campuses. The point of the training was to recognize people who were struggling. When I took psychiatry classes or worked as a doctor, I always heard, 'If I feel depressed when I enter the same room as someone, there's a high chance that they're depressed too. '"
"But psychological first aid goes a step further. It involves looking around and asking yourself, 'Is this person struggling?' You have to genuinely listen to feel it. If someone seems dangerous, call 109, the Korean Suicide Prevention Hotline. There are things we can do. All suicides are preventable," he emphasized.
