[All] Dong Yi (2010) – Classic Korean Historical Drama

Dong Yi (동이) is a 2010 South Korean historical drama series aired on MBC, directed by Lee Byung-hoon. The drama is set in the Joseon Dynasty and is based on the true story of Dong Yi, a smart and kind-hearted palace maid who later became King Sukjong's concubine and King Yeongjo's mother. The drama follows Dong Yi's journey from low status to her entry into the royal court, overcoming conspiracies and challenges, affirming her intelligence and courage. Han Hyo-joo's leading performance as Dong Yi was highly appreciated, while the setting, costumes and music were carefully invested to recreate the Joseon Dynasty space.

When I watched the film when it was broadcast, I was very impressed by the beauty of the actors and the delicate, colorful costumes, which helped the image of the Joseon Dynasty become vivid and attractive. “Dong Yi” created a big buzz in Korea and many Asian countries, becoming one of the historical films highly appreciated for its content, images and artistic value.
