(Incheon = Yonhap News) Reporter Son Hyeon-gyu = The assets of a YouTuber in his 30s who uploaded fake videos maliciously defaming Jang Won-young (20) of girl group 'I've' and made hundreds of millions of won in profits on the Internet have been frozen.

Incheon District Prosecutors' Office's 1st Criminal Division (Chief Prosecutor Lee Gon-ho) announced on the 24th that the court accepted the request for pre-indictment confiscation and preservation of some of the assets of YouTuber A (35, female), who was recently indicted on charges of defamation and insult under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc.

Mr. A's assets that were seized and preserved this time include real estate and deposits, totaling 200 million won.

Preservation of recovery is a measure to prevent a criminal suspect from stealing specific property before the sentence is finalized, thereby freezing the property so that it cannot be transferred or sold.

Based on the court decision, the prosecution plans to recover Mr. A's criminal proceeds, which amount to over 200 million won.

Person A was recently indicted on charges of defamation by uploading videos defaming 7 celebrities, including entertainers and influencers, 23 times on his YouTube channel 'Taldeoksuyongso', which he operated from October 2021 to June of last year.

He produced and distributed false videos claiming, "Jang Won-young was jealous, so a fellow trainee's debut was ruined" and "Other celebrities also engaged in prostitution or had plastic surgery."

The prosecution analyzed the YouTube channel account and found that Mr. A earned 250 million won in profit over two years from June 2021.

A prosecutor said, "We applied for pre-indictment preservation on the 9th and recently received a decision to accept it," and "We will thoroughly recover the proceeds from those who spread fake news by making money by sacrificing victims and prevent similar crimes."
