[All] The late Choi Jin-sil helped a middle school girl who was sexually assaulted in Miryang.. News that was delivered late
Choi Jin-sil's situation at the time
She married the late baseball star Jo Seong-min in 2002, but went through great difficulties as they divorced in 2004 due to domestic violence.
At the time, I was working as a model for a construction company, but I went through a major crisis when I was sued for 3 billion won in damages for breach of duty to maintain dignity.
Free legal representation from Attorney Kang Ji-won
At the time, Attorney Kang Ji-won was handling Choi Jin-sil's damages lawsuit as well as the legal representation of A, a victim of the Miryang gang rape incident, for free. When criticism arose that Choi Jin-sil's free defense was a special favor to celebrities, the attorney decided to receive a fee from Choi Jin-sil and use that money to help A.
At that time, Ms. A fled to Seoul with her mother and was living on basic livelihood security benefits due to financial difficulties.
Of the 10 million won prepared by Choi Jin-sil, 5 million won was given to a sexual violence counseling center and 5 million won was given to victim A's mother.
It is said that this was an action that Choi Jin-sil voluntarily carried out to express her intention to help women in need.
Miryang gang rape case
The incident is being brought to light again as the perpetrators' personal information was recently revealed on a YouTube channel.
In 2004, 44 male high school students in Miryang, Gyeongnam Province, lured victim A, a middle school student in Ulsan, through online chat and sexually assaulted her for a year. They threatened to spread the sexual assault and illegally filmed footage and even threatened to tell the victim's parents.
Including the 44 direct perpetrators and those who indirectly participated in the crime, the number of perpetrators reaches a whopping 119.
However, due to the police's poor investigation, only 44 people who directly participated in the sexual assault were prosecuted, and the investigation into the remaining 75 accomplices was swept under the rug, and they did not receive any legal punishment for this.
Victim A's livelihood difficulties
After the incident, the father, who had abandoned the family, suddenly appeared and, acting as if he had custody, visited the parents of the perpetrators and victim A and forced them to reach an agreement. In the end, thanks to the father's influence, they reached an agreement with several of the perpetrators for only 50 million won. Unfortunately, most of the settlement money was reportedly taken by relatives, including the aunt who led the agreement.
As the past Miryang gang rape case is being reexamined, the good deeds of the late Choi Jin-sil are also being belatedly reported.
