Seoul Mokdong Apartment Fire… Residents Evacuated from Rooftop Rescued by HelicopterA fire broke out in the underground parking lot of a 23-story apartment building in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul on the 19th, and firefighters are fighting the fire for over 10 hours.

According to fire authorities and others, a fire broke out in a recycling bin on the second basement floor at around 8:02 AM on this day, forcing 113 people, including apartment residents, to evacuate. 35 people inhaled smoke, but were not taken to the hospital.

Authorities issued a Level 1 response order at 10:37 a.m., 2 hours and 35 minutes after the fire broke out, mobilizing all fire department personnel, but it is taking time to put out the fire due to difficulties in entering the underground area.

As the firefighting effort dragged on, the fire department deployed a fire helicopter around 6 p.m. to rescue some residents who had evacuated to the rooftop.

An explosion occurred in a commercial building on the first floor while firefighters were fighting the fire, causing minor injuries to 17 firefighters, 11 of whom were taken to the hospital.
