Foreign media outlets have reported that YouTube is taking steps to block so-called "digital exiles" who change their internet connection location to use paid subscription services at lower prices.

TechCrunch and other IT media outlets reported on the 21st (local time) that YouTube appears to be taking a hard-line stance against premium service subscribers who use virtual private networks (VPNs).

According to reports, this week, the American online community Reddit was flooded with posts from users expressing their discontent over the cancellation of their YouTube Premium service subscriptions. These users were those who purchased the Premium service in other countries using VPNs.

In Korea, the monthly subscription fee for YouTube Premium is around 14,900 won, but in countries such as India, Nigeria, Egypt, and Argentina, the price is only around 1,000 to 3,000 won.
