Rescuing residents through swollen rivers...119 Rescue Team's 'miraculous rescue operation'

As heavy rain continues in various regions, rivers in Unju-myeon, Wanju-gun, Jeollabuk-do overflowed, leaving residents isolated and later rescued.

According to the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Fire Department on the 10th, starting at 4:12 AM that day, several reports of 'river overflow' were received in the Unju-myeon area of Wanju-gun.

As heavy rain poured down, the villagers were desperately waiting for rescue from the rooftops of restaurants and pensions. Even when the water rose to chest height, the 119 rescue team quickly arrived at the scene after hearing the cries of the residents.

The 119 rescue team rushed to wherever they called for help and evacuated residents to a safe place. The residents calmly followed the rescue team’s instructions and slowly walked toward the land. However, during the smooth evacuation process, the situation became urgent when a resident with difficulty moving was discovered.

This resident suffered from hemiplegia, which meant he could not move on his own. After much thought, the rescue team found a red rubber barrel in a field next to the village. They used the barrel, which was large enough to fit one person, to carry the disabled resident.

Rescue workers pushed and pulled the rubber bucket from both sides through the strong current to prevent it from being swept away or overturned. Finally, the residents were able to evacuate safely.

A fire department official said, "A resident with a disability almost got into the water and suffered a major accident, but the use of a rubber bucket was a great help," adding, "It's fortunate that all residents were evacuated safely."

Thanks to the quick and agile response of the 119 rescue team that day, all residents were safely rescued. The residents expressed their gratitude, saying, “We saved our lives thanks to the quick response and courage of the rescue team members.”
