[All] Denmark resumes sales of ‘Buldak Bokkeummyeon’ that was recalled because it was “too spicy”… Why?
Buldak Bokkeummyeon, which led the Korean 'spicy taste' craze in North America and Europe amid the popularity of K-food.
This product, which was popular because it was 'spicy', was recently recalled from the local market in Denmark for being "too spicy", but the decision was reversed a month later.
The Danish Veterinary Food Authority (DVFA) withdrew the recall of two Buldak Bokkeum Myeon products on the 12th (local time) and sent a related letter to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
The manufacturer submitted a counterargument, claiming that there was an error in the Danish method of measuring the amount of capsaicin, and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety also conveyed concerns to the Danish government that unnecessary misunderstandings about Korean products could spread or develop into a 'trade barrier.'
In the end, the Danish Veterinary Food Authority decided to withdraw the recall of two of the three Buldak Bokkeummyeon products, excluding 'Nuclear Buldak Bokkeummyeon 3X Spicy', and resume local sales.
This is the conclusion reached after conducting a new risk assessment based on information provided by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
Although one product remains suspended from sale, the agency said it is respecting the Danish government's discretion and is not planning any further action.
