Police have begun an investigation (investigation) prior to filing a case after receiving a request for an investigation into comedian Lee Jin-ho (38), who confessed to illegal internet gambling.

Seoul Gangnam Police Station announced on the 15th that it received a request for investigation into habitual gambling and fraud charges against Lee Jin-ho submitted by a citizen through the National Petition Center and is currently investigating before filing a case.

A police official said, "The case has been assigned to the Gangnam Police Station 2nd Investigation Division," and "We will review whether to formally file a case after looking into the contents of the complaint." However, since Lee Jin-ho himself has revealed the illegal gambling, the police are expected to begin a formal investigation soon.

The petitioner posted on the online community DC Inside on that day, revealing that he had personally filed a petition with the National Petition Center the previous day.

He said, "Lee Jin-ho is a well-known celebrity, and his every action has a huge social impact," adding, "Numerous celebrities and sports stars have already been implicated in illegal gambling, causing great disappointment to the public, but the controversy continues."

He continued, "We urge the police to thoroughly investigate Lee Jin-ho's habitual gambling and fraud charges so that criminals will no longer run rampant in the popular culture and arts world," and added, "We urge that those who opened illegal gambling dens be severely punished on charges of opening a gambling den."

In a post on social media the previous day, Lee Jin-ho revealed, "In 2020, I started playing games on an illegal internet gambling site by chance and ended up taking on a debt that was difficult to handle."

He said that he had belatedly stopped gambling and was paying back money he borrowed from acquaintances. He also said, "I will faithfully undergo the police investigation and pay the price for my wrongdoings."

Lee Jin-ho, who debuted as a special comedian on SBS in 2005, became known through appearances on public comedy shows such as SBS's 'Gag Concert', MBC's 'Ha-Tang-Sa', tvN's 'Comedy Big League', and entertainment programs such as JTBC's 'Knowing Bros'.
