[All] "Can't I just say I'm a New Jeans fan?" A famous Japanese band vocalist asks a surprise question [X's Interview]
(Xports News Reporter Kim Ye-na) Japanese band UVERworld vocalist Takuya (TAKUYA∞) revealed his love for the group New Jeans.
The joint concert 'UVERworld&CNBLUE SUMMER LIVE IN JAPAN and KOREA ~UNLIMITED CHALLENGE~' by Korean band CNBLUE (Jung Yong-hwa, Kang Min-hyuk, Lee Jung-shin) and Uberworld (Takuya, Katsuya, Akira, Nobuto, Shintaro, Seika) will be held on the 27th.
On the 26th, a day before CNBLUE's first joint concert and Uber World's first concert in Korea, a roundtable interview was held at the FNC Entertainment building in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul. CNBLUE vocalist Jung Yong-hwa, Uber World vocalist Takuya, and drummer Shintaro attended the interview as representatives of each band and shared various stories.
CNBLUE and Uberworld successfully held their first joint concert in Yokohama, Japan last month, giving fans great satisfaction with a diverse setlist that allowed them to enjoy the two bands' representative songs together. Domestic fans have also become more interested in this joint concert, as they can see high-quality performances by two bands representing Korea and Japan in one place.
Jung Yong-hwa said, "I'm so happy to be able to perform with Uber World in Korea following Japan. I learned a lot during our first performance, so I'm excited because I think I'll be able to learn more this time too." Takuya expressed his anticipation by saying, "I'm happy that I can perform in front of Uber World fans in Korea. I'm also happy that I can perform in front of CNBLUE fans. I heard that fans are coming from Japan to see this performance. I hope it will be a great show."
As the influence of the domestic music band scene grew, the response of music fans became more enthusiastic, and the movement to go to concerts also became active. Jung Yong-hwa said, "I am so grateful for the great love that domestic fans have for the band. I have tried hard to overcome the threshold of band music since my debut, and I think there is still a wall. However, it has come down a lot now, and it is meaningful that people recognize that there are many good bands coming out."
Uberworld was first formed in 2000, officially debuted in 2005, and boasts great influence as one of Japan's representative bands. Uberworld, which celebrates its 24th anniversary this year, has presented various genres of music, from animation to movies, dramas, and commercials. In addition, they have continuously performed live at large and small venues, from live houses to stadiums, proving their solid popularity.
Takuya added, "In Japan, there aren't many musical genre walls between band music, dance, and idol groups. Various genres of music are becoming one and creating a flow. In the meantime, Korean groups coming to Japan to perform, such as Stray Kids, CNBLUE, FT Island, Espa, Seraphim, and Blackpink, are all great. There are no genre barriers, and I see them as Korean artists. Their level is extremely high, and I think their fans' level is also high, so I'm grateful."
So who is Takuya's favorite K-pop group? When asked, Takuya answered "New Jeans" without hesitation and added "CNBLUE" slightly, causing laughter in the audience. Jung Yong Hwa wittily commented, "I think CNBLUE was added for manners," and Takuya nodded without denying Jung Yong Hwa's words.
Later, at the end of the interview, Takuya cautiously asked, "Is it not okay to say that you are a New Jeans fan?" He added that Taylor Swift is popular in Japan, but if you go to the US and say you are a Taylor Swift fan, people will laugh at you. It seems like he was conscious of the reaction when he previously revealed that he was a New Jeans fan.
Jung Yong-hwa then reassured Takuya by saying in Japanese, "We are all fans of New Jeans." Takuya responded with a bright smile as if he was relieved, creating a warm feeling.
