Actor Park Bo-gum has been selected as a Hallyu cultural artist for the '2025 Hanbok Wave' project and will work with four domestic hanbok brands to promote the quality and elegance of hanbok to the world.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, together with the Korea Craft & Design Foundation (hereafter referred to as the Foundation), is promoting the 'Hanbok Wave' project, in which potential and technological hanbok companies and Hallyu cultural and artistic figures come together to develop hanbok products.

Through the 'Hanbok Wave' project, now in its 6th year, the unique beauty of Hanbok was introduced to the world with actress Kim Tae-ri in 2024, actress and singer Suzy in 2023, and former figure skater Kim Yuna in 2022.

This year, we are collaborating with actor Park Bo-gum, who created a worldwide craze with the Netflix drama. Previously, we focused on women’s hanbok, but this year, we have selected a male solo artist as our collaboration partner for the first time. We plan to focus on the expandability and diversity of hanbok.

To this end, we are holding a contest from April 15 to May 9 for companies that can suggest new possibilities for men's hanbok with Park Bo-gum as the motif.

The contest will select four companies by comprehensively evaluating creativity, expertise, feasibility, and expected effects for small and medium-sized enterprises in the Hanbok field. The selected companies will develop Hanbok designs that reflect Park Bo-gum’s image and symbolism, and the developed Hanbok will be introduced through billboards in major cities around the world, such as Seoul, New York, Paris, and Milan, and through famous fashion magazines. Lee Jeong-woo, director of the Culture and Arts Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, “Interest in hanbok has been increasing recently along with the global spread of K-content,” and added, “I hope that through hanbok content that harmoniously captures the traditional beauty and modern sensibility of hanbok together with Hallyu cultural and artistic figures, hanbok can approach people around the world as a cultural heritage representing Korea and as attractive content that everyone can enjoy.”
