The conversation we had at the playground kept going back and forth in my head.

"You didn't know that, did you? I saw your face a lot when I was class president."

'I'm not the type to say just anything.'

The words Jeonghan had casually spoken that day struck a strange chord in my heart. It seemed even stranger to me, to be so easily attaching meaning to even a can of soda or a single chocolate bar.

Is this just a prank or do they really care about me a little?

.
The next morning, as I entered the school gate, I absentmindedly glanced up at the classroom window. Was Jeonghan already in class? It was funny to think that.

Just as I was trying to compose myself, I saw Jeonghan slowly walking in from the end of the hallway. His languid steps, his relaxed expression, and his fleeting gaze. My heart sank at that brief glance.

“Class president, did you organize the data yesterday?”

Jeonghan came to my seat and asked.

“Yes, but why?”

“Show me later. I want to see it.”

"what?"

“Not the data, you.”

For a moment, the classroom seemed noisy, but then, with that one word, all the noise seemed to cease. I lowered my voice for no reason, fearing that I might draw the children's attention.

“Hey, don’t say that in front of the kids.”

“What? I was just telling the truth.”

Jeonghan glanced at me and smiled playfully. His smile wasn't hateful or annoying; it just made my heart pound.

.
During lunch time, Eun-jeong came up to me and asked me a question.

“What do you guys really have?”

“How many times do I have to say no?”

“But why does he only smile when he sees you?”

“I guess it’s funny…”

The end of the sentence was vague, and then Jeonghan appeared from behind.

"Class President, don't worry about what to eat. I'll stand in line for you today."

"What? It's okay. Why do you keep—"

“If you stay still, I’ll be comfortable too.”

Jeonghan picked up the tray and took the lead. I followed him, and his expression was so relaxed as if he knew everything. It made my heart race.

“Why are you like this?”

When I asked in a whisper, Jeonghan turned his head away for a moment.

“Why, are you confused?”

“…Who is confused?”

“Do you look like that now?”

His words always sounded like a joke, but strangely enough, they sounded sincere. Sometimes, I wonder, "What if he really likes me? But at the same time, what if I'm just misunderstanding something?" That anxiety keeps me trying to distance myself, but when Jeonghan takes a step closer, I can't refuse.

On my way back from the teacher's office after class, printed materials were scattered on the floor. As I frantically picked them up, someone quietly approached me and joined me in the process. I looked up and it was Jeonghan.

“Why are you so flustered?”

“Don’t surprise me.”

“Just looking at you makes me want to take care of you.”

For a moment, I was breathless.

“Hey, don’t say things like that.”

“I won’t do it carelessly. I’ll only do it to you.”

He met my eyes as he gathered all the papers and handed them over.

“I think I really like you.”
