Q. How do you feel about your first comeback after being discharged from the military?
“I’m really excited to share new music with you after such a long time. I wanted to share my music with you as soon as possible and enjoy it with my fans. I’m nervous and in many ways, half excited and half worried. This is a product of much thought, so I hope you like it.”
Q. What were your thoughts when you first heard the song?
“As soon as I heard it, I was certain that ‘J-Hope should do this song.’ Usually, when I listen to a good song, I can picture many different things, but this song was one that had so many clear pictures. I hope my conviction and belief are not wrong. It’s a song that I like and enjoy, so I hope that my sincerity is conveyed well to everyone.”
Q. What is the behind-the-scenes process of creating a new song?
“While preparing this song, I tried song camp for the first time, and this method suited me better than I thought, so I had fun working on it. Thanks to that, I was able to make a lot of songs while I was in Los Angeles. Since there were a lot of good songs coming out, I wanted to let my fans hear them quickly. Also, since the songs I worked on at that time all had different colors, I wanted to see which genre would suit me the best and how the listeners would listen to them.”
Q. Is there anything you want people to know?
“I can’t define popular music, but this new song started with what kind of popular music I want to do. Music is a way for artists to talk and express themselves, but I think the listener’s position is the most important. And this time, I valued the process more than the results. The song camp in Los Angeles that I mentioned earlier is part of that. I think the various promotions that I will present in the future and my attitude toward executing them will all be part of my learning. I think it will be meaningful to me if the listeners also recognize my efforts.”
Q. How was the collaboration process with Miguel?
“I was the first to suggest a featuring, and I was so touched that he accepted it so positively even though we weren’t personally acquainted (laughs). He accepted it so nicely. I’ve listened to Miguel’s music since I was young. I was happy to be able to collaborate with someone like him. I thought Miguel’s deep voice and sincerity went well with the song, and I’m happy that the result turned out well.”
Q. The event in Paris this January is a hot topic. Can you tell us about the atmosphere at the scene?
“I was very nervous about this performance before my solo concert. I was so inspired by the fact that so many ARMY (fan club name) came to see me, and it helped me prepare for the concert. I felt the energy of the fans in Paris, and I definitely want to go back and show them an even better side of me. I was so touched that I could only hear ARMY’s voices through my in-ear headphones at the venue. The power of BTS is what I truly believe. ARMY is the best!”
Q. What do you want to say to the fans who have waited for a long time?
“You’ve waited so long! The music you can listen to anytime, comfortably, ‘Sweet Dreams (feat. Miguel)’ is finally being released to the world. It’s a song I put my whole heart into, and I wanted to share it with more people as soon as possible. You know how I feel, right? I love our ARMY who have enjoyed it and always take responsibility for my sweets and dreams. I think the first half of this year will be really colorful. I will take responsibility for everything from cuteness, funkiness, and sexiness, and I will perform wonderfully and come back.”
