BTS' Jungkook sparked controversy by wearing a hat that seemed to symbolize the Japanese far right.
On the 13th, photos of Jungkook rehearsing for his guest appearance at J-Hope's concert were shared through various online communities and SNS channels. In the photos, Jungkook was wearing casual clothes, but the phrase written on the hat he was wearing became controversial.
The hat in question had the phrase “MAKE TOKYO GREAT AGAIN” written on it, which is reminiscent of the slogan used by Trump, who was recently elected as the US president. In fact, it has been reported that right-wing politicians in Japan have used the slogan on the hat worn by Jeongguk, and public opinion criticizing Jeongguk has grown stronger.
In response, Jungkook uploaded an apology through Weverse at 2 a.m. on the 14th. He said, "It's heavy of heart to write something like this after meeting you all for the first time in a long time," and "I sincerely apologize for disappointing and making many people uncomfortable due to the words written on the hat I wore during rehearsal today."
He said he wore it without thinking about the meaning of the phrase.
I'm sure Jeong-guk is upset that this is the first news he's heard after his military service.
I hope you quickly get your act together and start working on your new album.
