[All] BTS, Jang Won-young defamation 'de-fan camp', 50 million won compensation ruling not accepted… Appeal submitted

Person A was previously indicted on charges of uploading 23 YouTube videos defaming 7 celebrities, including I.B. member Jang Won-young, between October 2021 and June 2023 (defamation, insult, etc. under the Information and Communications Network Act). He was sentenced to 2 years in prison and 3 years of probation in the first trial, and the second trial is currently in progress.

Jang Won-young also filed a lawsuit for damages against person A, and regarding this, the 9-3rd Civil Appeals Division of the Seoul Central District Court ruled in January, "Person A must pay 50 million won to Jang Won-young."

Last September, Mr. A was sentenced to a fine of 10 million won for defamation of singer Kang Daniel, and two months later, he was also ordered to pay 30 million won in a damages lawsuit filed by Kang Daniel. In February, he was also ordered to pay 76 million won in damages to BTS's V and Jungkook.

Wow, seeing the news of this court ruling, it's a really complicated and serious situation. I felt once again that the legal responsibility for malicious comments and fake videos targeting famous artists is becoming more and more serious.

It's reassuring to see Starship Entertainment actively responding and protecting the artists' honor as a fan. Celebrities are people after all, and I feel strongly that their personalities and rights must be protected. I hope that such malicious acts will decrease in the future, and that fans will be able to create a healthy cheering culture.
