BTS has once again proven its global influence in the United States.
On the 23rd (local time), the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) granted new certifications to 9 songs by BTS. 4 songs, including the title song "RUN" from their fourth mini-album "Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa pt. 2," "Blood Sweat & Tears" from their second full-length album "WINGS," "DNA" from "LOVE YOURSELF 承 'Her'," and "FAKE LOVE" from "LOVE YOURSELF 轉 'Tear'," received platinum certification, which is given to songs that sell over 1 million units. With this, BTS now has a total of 13 platinum certifications. They have broken their own record for "most RIAA platinum certifications" by a K-pop artist.
Among the individual works of each member, Jimin's title song 'Like Crazy' from his first solo album 'FACE' and Jungkook's solo single 'Seven (feat. Latto)' have each received platinum certification.
BTS received a 5x Platinum (over 5 million units sold) certification from the RIAA last year for their global hit song "Dynamite." Among Korean artists, BTS and PSY (Gangnam Style) are the only two to have a song that has been certified 5x Platinum.
BTS added five more Gold certifications to their four Platinum records. "Save ME" from their special album "화양연화 Young Forever," the title track "봄날" from "WINGS Side Story: YOU NEVER WALK ALONE," the title track "ON" and the track "Black Swan" from their fourth full-length album "MAP OF THE SOUL : 7," and the single "Permission to Dance" were certified Gold (over 500,000 units sold). This brings the total number of Gold certifications BTS has accumulated so far to 20.
Meanwhile, the RIAA awards certifications based on digital single and album sales, dividing them into Gold (over 500,000 units), Platinum (over 1 million units), Multi-Platinum (over 2 million units), and Diamond (over 10 million units). Unit counting is a method that weights album (physical/digital) sales, digital downloads, and audio and video streaming.
It seems like no one will be able to break BTS's record.
