[STN News] Reporter Sang-Wan Lee┃Compose Coffee, a domestic low-price coffee brand, is on the verge of surpassing 3,000 franchise stores nationwide after 11 years of operation.

According to the franchise industry on the 29th, Compose Coffee currently has 2,998 franchise stores. It's predicted that the number of franchise stores will surpass 3,000 as early as this month.

This is only 11 years after starting business in Busan in 2014, and has rapidly grown in size through an aggressive franchise strategy and a 'cost-effective' concept that lowers menu unit prices.

Among domestic coffee franchises, it ranks second in terms of number of stores, following Mega MGC Coffee operated by Anne House.

Compose Coffee's sales and operating profit last year were KRW 89.7 billion and KRW 40 billion, respectively, up 0.9% and 9.0% year-on-year. Net income for the period reached KRW 48 billion, a remarkable 185.7% increase.

The analysis is that the selection of V (real name Kim Taehyung), a member of the global super group BTS, as a promotional model had a great effect.

In addition, the company was sold to Jollibee, the largest restaurant company in the Philippines, laying the foundation for its overseas expansion, and recently appointed Hong-seok Kim, a former Samsung Electronics executive, as CEO, focusing on expanding its overseas business beyond the saturated domestic market.

As of the 24th, the number of stores for Mega MGC Coffee, the number one coffee brand, was 3,850. The number of stores for The Born Korea's Paikdabang, considered the "original low-price coffee," is 1,850.

Despite various controversies surrounding its operations, the number of stores increased by 138 this year, up from 1,712 at the end of last year. Among the 25 restaurant brands under its umbrella, Paekdabang is the only one to see an increase in the number of stores.
