The Mexican president has highlighted the influence of K-pop, describing BTS' upcoming concert in Mexico City in May as "historic."

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum mentioned BTS at a regular press conference on the 19th (local time), saying, "It's really fortunate that (BTS) is holding a concert in Mexico," adding, "This is something that young people in Mexico have been asking for for a long time."

BTS will perform at the GNP Seguros Stadium (formerly Foro Sol) in Mexico City on May 7 and 9-10 as part of their world tour schedule.

GNP Seguros Stadium, which can accommodate around 60,000 spectators, has hosted performances by Blackpink, Twice, Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, and Metallica.

President Shainbaum described the BTS concert as "historic," and noted that "there were issues with ticket sales, which the Director of Consumer Protection will address."
